As the project was to be filmed completely in school, we wanted our story to be something related to being a student. Our final idea came to us after some discussion and we decided to keep it relatively simple. Our story revolved around a student walking into school and being shocked to discover a test was scheduled and she was completely unprepared. The video followed her scrambling to study in time before walking into class and discovering the dreaded test had been postponed.
Linked below are all of the storyboards created for the project itself. Detailed are the scenes of our main character coming into school and interacting with her friend, scrambling to study at lunch, walk into the classroom etc. The storyboard was really useful in visualizing what I had previously written on the word doc version of our script. Seeing all the shots laid out in order allowed us to move things around, point out what we did and didn’t like, and grasp the overall tone of the film.
In order to make our project a bit more visually interesting we tried to utilize editing techniques shown in class such as cutaways and jump cuts. All of this was done with a mix of iMovie used by my partner and Adobe express by me
Myself and my partners’ roles were distributed evenly throughout the process. We worked together on the overall idea which I scripted out. She worked on all the lovely storyboards seen here and also starred in the project as I filmed. We took turns on the editing though I admit she did a lot of the heavy lifting as she had a lot more experience than me and did an excellent job.
In all honesty my partner and myself didn’t have much trouble creating our project. On the contrary, it was a lot of fun and we were happy to find out how well we work as a team. However, if I had to call out one difficult part it would be any scenes we were both featured in. Not wanting to distract our peers from their own work led to a lot of us standing around and waiting for them to find a moment to help us. Explaining the vision of each scene also ate up a good amount of time. All of this to say, we are both extremely grateful for the assistance we got from other classmates as well as out teacher who allowed us to use some of her equipment and write on her whiteboard. Shout out Ms. Stoklosa!
At the end of the day, our project is imperfect, next time I would want to include more actual studying footage to better express our character’s stress. A few more characters added in would make it more interesting, a more satisfying ending of the main character taking and passing the test if we had more time, and doing something about the huge zit on my cheek in the last scene are all notes to keep in mind for a redo. However, I think the current outcome gets our point across, has some funny moments, and taught both me and my partner a lot for the future.
Linked below is the actual project this post detailed! Enjoy!
